Soft tissue graft - Microsurgical procedure

Gingival graft is a micro surgical procedure where defect of the soft tissues in aesthetic zone is covered up by transplanting a piece of soft tissue (connective tissue, or internal layer of gingiva).

Usually this type of procedure is required with bone augmentation and implant placement or to cover up defect causes by periodontal disease or trauma.

It is a delicate procedure, where thin sutures close the wound, and are removed from 7 do 14 days, depending on the case.

Maturing of the transplant will last approximately 4 months, which is why we prefer while placing the implant doing the transplants, so the time of healing is reduced.

Instructions and indications

The procedure by itself does not hurt, and is performed under local anaesthesia. After the procedure there can be slight sensitivity for few days.

No swelling. Mild swelling can be on local part where the transplant is placed.

This type of procedure is planned at the end of the working week, for your own convenience. Leave from work is not needed.

Smoking is the strongest contra indication. We advise our patients to stop smoking completely or to drastically reduce the number of cigarettes.

Soft tissue graft has the same precaution measurements as dental implants – indications.
