Indications - dental implants

Indications

Dental implant is currently the most advanced therapy for the missing tooth replacement.

Almost for the full decade in Dentorium we successfully participate in the branch of implantology, whereby based on variety of experience we can say that placing implants is safe and predictable procedure.

Like many other medical procedures, it has its own indication and precautions. Following are the most frequent:

Age

Minimum is 18. Natural teeth are still coming out, so there is great probability of having disharmony in few years in height of the natural tooth and fixed implant, which is not only an esthetical problem but also not so easily solved functional problem.

Diabetes

Patients with diabetes are amongst those of “risk group”. When it comes to implant placement, they need longer time for healing and are subject to postoperative complications. If diabetes is kept under control, with all measurements of precaution, it does not have to be an absolute contraindication for the treatment.

Smoking

Great risk to any surgical procedure is smoking. Smokers have less oxygen in blood, which results in lesser supply of blood toward the surgically treated area, thus slower healing. Also, nicotine from the cigarette will interrupt the blood clot formation, interfering even more with the healing period.

Smokers will have increased risk of the surgery and treatment itself.

Our recommendation is to quit smoking before the procedure, and throughout healing period. Other option is to drastically decrease the number of cigarettes.

Not recommended in osteoporosis, heart and kidney conditions, psychosis...
